Wokingham Art Society present Sir Edwin Landseer: the Shakespeare of Dogs

The next Wokingham Art Society lecture is called, 'Sir Edwin Landseer: the Shakespeare of Dogs' and will be given by Karin Fernald

In his heyday, the animal artist Edwin Landseer was hugely celebrated and loved for his highland stags, dogs and particularly for his lions in Trafalgar Square. He was a child prodigy and was known for his vivid textures of animal skin, hair and fur. When Sir Edwin died, they buried him in St Paul’s Cathedral, crowds lined the streets and black wreaths were wrapped around the necks of those lions in Trafalgar Square.

Karin is a theatre and TV actor and known for her entertaining lectures on writers and diarists connected with the arts from the mid-18th to 19th century. Her extensive research into their diaries and letters bring her lectures vividly to life, illustrated with contemporary pictures and portraits.
